Varanus bengalensis
—
Bengal Monitor
Also known as:
Common Indian Monitor, Indian Monitor, Land Monitor
Sri Lanka has two monitor lizards, the Water Monitor and the Bengal Monitor, also called the Land Monitor. Both are common in the right habitats. This handsome fellow was my first Bengal Monitor.
Here's a tiny li'l baby one, cute as cute can be.
We visited a zoo whose director was a buddy of my guide Udaka Chanaya. While waiting for some zoo folk, I took some iPhone photos of several medium-sized Bengal Monitors wandering about.
