Varzea altamazonica
—
Upper-Amazon Skink
Also known as:
Western Amazon Mabuya
I only recently learned that there are (at least?) two skink species in this area, Copeoglossum nigropunctatum and this species, Varzea altamazonica. They are primarily distinguished by counting certain head scales. This one was identified on iNaturalist by Pete Zani, who counted those scales.
It's likely that many of my older observations of Copeoglossum nigropunctatum are this species instead.
