Trimeresurus sumatranus
—
Sumatran Pit Viper
Also known as:
Sumatran Tree Viper, Sumatra Pit Viper
This species is sometimes placed in the genus Parias.
Kurt noticed this big, dramatic viper while I was fawning over a tiny, cute frog. The large size and strong pattern identify this one as an adult female. She was in the early stages of shedding her skin, and did not finish in the next few days while we were still in the area. Kurt returned a week or so later and she still hadn't finished.
