Taruga eques
—
Saddled Treefrog
Also known as:
Gunther’s Whipping Frog, Mountain Hourglass Treefrog
Taruga is a small genus of medium-sized frogs, all of which are endemic to Sri Lanka, and all of which look basically the same. Fortunately that basic look is kinda weird -- extra-long and pointy snout, just kind of angular and pointy all over. This particular one also looks like it has imbibed or smoked a little too much of something.
This one is fully awake and in full possession of all of its senses.
Here are a couple more photos from a different area. Neither of these is very good, but I figured if and when Taruga eques gets split up into multiple species, one per mountain range, I'll be ready.
