Palleon nasus
—
Elongate Leaf Chameleon
This species was formerly placed in the genus Brookesia, with all the other small brown mainly terrestrial chameleons. But with its extra pointy snout and laterally compressed body (and, let's face it, divergent DNA), it was deemed different enough to deserve its own genus, along one other similar-looking species.
Here is a list of all the reptiles and frogs I saw on this 2023 trip to Madagascar.
José had a look at the shape of this species and deemed it the Empanada Chameleon. We could not disagree.
The absence of a wave-like crest along the back shows that this one is a female, doing its best dead-leaf impression.
