Nannophrys marmorata
—
Kirtisinghe’s Rock Frog
Also known as:
Marbled Streamlined Frog
These oh-so-flat frogs are the literal poster children of Knuckles Forest Reserve: a large billboard at the reserve visitor center features them prominently. They are classified as critically endangered due to their very small range and precise microhabitat requirements -- narrow and horizontal rock crevices adjacent to clear water streams. Fortunately for me, my guide Udaya Chanaka knew exactly where to find them.
