Lygodactylus miops

Gunther’s Dwarf Gecko
My wife Monica Rua spotted this little gecko in the bushes at the Analamazaotra orchid garden. It was initially on a branch, and skittered out of sight before I could get a photo. But it didn't go far, just around the back of the branch, so I could easily spook into skittering back around to the front. But then when I'd get my camera ready, it would sneak off again. We played this game for awhile, but eventually it grew bored and made a little jump, landing perfectly posed on a leaf. I got a few photos like this one before it ran out of sight completely.

José Vieira of Tropical Herping found this sleeping gecko, along with a disproportionately huge number of the other herps our group saw on this trip.

We saw several more of this species around Andasibe. A few of them were active during the day, but my best photos are of the ones sleeping at night.
This one seems to be defying gravity but hey, it's a gecko.
This one has found the perfect plant to sleep on, camouflage-wise. Well, maybe not the perfect plant, because I did see it. But still, much better than a green leaf.
