Lankanectes corrugatus
—
Corrugated Water Frog
Also known as:
Sri Lanka Wart Frog
This species was described in 1863, and originally placed in Rana (I suspect most frogs were placed in Rana way back then). It was later transferred to Dicroglossus, then back to Rana, then moved to Limnonectes. Finally (?), it was placed in a new genus Lankanectes all by itself, and this genus was placed in the family Nyctibatrachidae, formerly known only from India.
This individual is a youngster. I extracted it from a muddy stream to get photos.
The next day we found a couple of others, both of which were also in the stream. These frogs are basically always in the water, or right at the water's edge ready to jump in. These two are both adults.
