Hoplobatrachus occipitalis
—
African Crowned Bullfrog
Also known as:
Crowned Bullfrog, African Tigrine Frog, African Tiger Frog
This frog is big and meaty enough to feature in the local diet. At least one scientific paper has been written about how to most efficiently breed and grow these frogs for culinary purposes.
A local guy was unsuccessfully trying to find us some snakes in the savanna east of Accra this morning. I think he felt bad about the lack of serpents, because he spent a good ten minutes bailing water out of a small concrete reservoir in order to fully reveal this large but common frog. We appreciated his efforts.
