Erythrolamprus pygmaeus
—
Amazon Tropical Forest Snake
Also known as:
Pygmy Swamp Snake
Either Greg Stephens or Nick Burgmeier (I have since forgotten) spotted this extremely small snake on the trail as we climbed from the river to the Santa Cruz field station just after arriving. It took us a few days as a group to finally ID it as a species that none of the participants had seen before, not even group leaders Matt Cage and Mike Pingleton who have both been to this field station innumerable times. (Well, maybe numerable, but still, a lot.)
