Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis
—
Common Skittering Frog
Also known as:
Indian Skipper Frog, Skittering Frog
This aquatic frog is one of the most widely distributed South Asian frogs, found in Thailand, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Iran and Afghantistan, at least. It is pobably a species complex that will be broken up into several separate species some day.
My favorite fact about this frog is that the founder of India's Mughal dynasty, Babur, who died in 1530, wrote an autobiography in which he reported this frog's peculiar habit of skittering over the water surface. Or at least that's what amphibiaweb says.
