Crotalus simus

Central American Rattlesnake

Our main target in this area was the Guatemalan Beaded Lizard (Heloderma charlesbogerti). Sadly, we did not see any wild beaded lizards. But happily, we found my first two Central American Rattlesnakes, both large and intimidating adults.
Here is a list of all the reptiles and frogs I saw on this trip to Guatemala.

In a different area the next night we discovered another of these impressive snakes, very successfully blending into the leaf litter.
