O’Shaugnessy’s Chameleon
We found this one by flashlight. I shoulda taken a picture. What was I thinking?
I continue to be surprised by how much better chameleons are at camouflaging themselves during the day then they are camouflaging themselves during the night. I'm thankful for it mind you, but surprised.
Here is a list of all the reptiles and frogs I saw on this 2007 trip to Madagascar.
On our first night in the area on this trip, we just wandered along the edge of the main road, looking up into the roadside vegetation. Despite the fact that we had to cut our hike short due to a rainstorm, we experienced a cornucopia of chameleons, including a baker's dozen of this large charismatic species. (Well, they were mostly large.) Altogether I photographed 72 chameleons in about three hours that night.

They look so peaceful when they're sleeping, don't they? Oh, I just remembered, they also look peaceful when they are awake, like all other chameleons.
