Malthe’s Green-eared Chameleon
We saw a couple of these large, dramatic chameleons by day, and then a bunch more that night. The ones with the "green ears" (and protruding proboscises) are males; the reddish-brown ones with some light spots are females. This is one of many, many examples of sexist English names for animal species.
Here is a list of all the reptiles and frogs I saw on this 2023 trip to Madagascar.
One week later, in the same forest. I do believe this is the very same chameleon in the very same perch, just an inch or so behind where it had been earlier. That is some impressive site fidelity!
