Clelia clelia
—
Black Mussurana
Also known as:
Mussurana, Common Mussurana, Windward Cribo
Part of the standard MT Amazon Adventures herp tour itinerary is a road cruise along the only decent-sized road in the area, which connects Iquitos to the much smaller town of Nauta. The big prize on the pavement this year was this very large, fairly slow, quite uncooperative Mussurana. It took a gaggle of herpers at least half an hour to encourage this impressive serpent to hold even an awkward position for more than a few seconds.
