Agama sankaranica
—
Senegal Agama
We saw a half-dozen or so of these speedsters on a hot morning in the savanna east of Accra. All of the others were seen only as they raced from place to place. One of them dove into a hole in the ground and was dug out by the local guy who was trying to find snakes for us. We had it in hand for a moment, but it made a sudden movement to free itself and zipped off again. Finally I noticed this one from some distance in the mottled shade under a trailside bush, and managed to get photos with a long lens from far enough away that it didn't immediately vanish.
