Abavorana luctuosa
—
Mahogany Frog
Also known as:
Malaysian Frog, Purple Frog
This frog currently occupies the genus Abavorana with a few other species. It was formerly placed in Hylarana, and in Rana before that.
This very distinctive frog is typically jumpy and difficult to approach. This one was willing to hold its position long enough to allow exactly two photographs, before bounding away.
My Travelogues and Trip Lists page includes a complete list of the herps I saw in the wild on this trip to Malaysia, as well as a travelogue of the trip.
